On a more global scale, we just partnered with an organization called Homes for Hope to contribute pro-actively in the fight against poverty around the world. They will be building a home with donated and discounted good/services from their trade partners and once sold, 100% of the profits will be donated to HOPE International. The proceeds will provide hundreds of families in developing countries with the tools and resources to grow a small business and break the cycle of poverty. This month, we held a ground breaking ceremony celebrating the start of this new home!

April 2014 - Custom-designed Home completed this Winter

Bay to Beach Builders just completed a custom-designed three bedroom home for a young family in southern Sussex County. This beautiful home featured more than 2,100 s.f. of living space with an additional 800 s.f. of unfinished space on the second level. The design provides for a formal dining room as well as a dinette, both adjacent to the kitchen showcasing dark-stained maple cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops. Additional design features include a master suite with two walk-in closets and a spacious bath with a soaking tub and shower. The rear entry boasts a two-story foyer that leads to storage and areas that can be completed for future living space.

The winter weather did not make it easy to break ground on this home, but when we were sure the ground was ready for a foundation, we started construction around the first of the year. Despite the extreme cold and repeated snowfall, construction on the home progressed at a consistent pace that enabled the homeowners to move in almost three months after the start.

January 2014 - Ground-Breaking on New Idea Home

Mountains of dirt surround a huge hole next to the intersection of Rt. 13 and Rt. 16 in Greenwood, where a new type of model home is coming this summer. Excavation began Friday, the day after Bay to Beach Builders, Inc., a builder of custom homes featuring Amish craftsmanship, hosted the official ground-breaking ceremony for this project on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 1:00 p.m.

Employees, trade partners, clients and local officials joined the company owners, Deric and Carla Parker, to commemorate the start of construction. Bay to Beach Builders is constructing an "Idea Home" that will showcase an all-new home lay-out and innovative features, but the hallmark of the project will be the 2,700 square foot, state-of-the-art design studio on the lower level.

"With this expansion of our company, we hope to bring a new and exciting experience in home building unlike anything in our area," Deric Parker said during the ceremony. "As we break ground, it comes at a milestone for our company as we've just started our 200th home."

The Bay to Beach Builders team designed this home based on customer feedback from their national award-winning model home at their Apple Tree Crossing community in Bridgeville.

"We look forward to the continued growth this project will bring to both our company and the local area," Parker said just before he and his wife dug the first shovel of dirt.

Greenwood Town Manager John McDonnell has been involved in planning for this project and shared his experience after attending Thursday's event, "I have been very impressed in dealing with Bay to Beach. Everything that was required was made available. I think very positive about the Idea Home...controlled growth is good for any community."

In addition to the construction of the Idea Home, the company will be introducing new floorplans, new products and a new website over the coming months. Bay to Beach Builders specializes in custom, stick-built homes on your lot from around $100,000 to over $400,000.

December 2013 - Preserving the Past. Preparing for the Future.

Two days before Christmas a new sign appeared on an empty lot at the corner of Rt. 13 and Rt. 16 in Greenwood, right across the street from Bay to Beach Builders main office.

"Coming Soon, Amish Built IDEA HOME."

Just a week prior a home sat on that piece of ground that had been there for 60+ years. It rolled down Rt. 13 to a new location on Governor's Ave., soon to be occupied by its new owners.

Bay to Beach Builders was glad to be able to help out a young family while preserving the home that held special meaning for some local residents. Now, we are preparing for the future and a new home to be located in its place on the high-traffic intersection.

In the coming months, Bay to Beach Builders will begin construction on an all-new Model Home and Design Center. We call it an "Idea Home" because it will be much more than just a model home. Not only will you walk through a new, innovative home design but you will also experience features that you may have never even imagined for your home. The intrigue will continue as you enter our state-of-the-art Design Center located on the lower level of the home. It will be the first of its kind for custom home builders in Delaware. We believe your first visit will give you so many wonderful IDEAs for your new home, you'll want to come back many times to take it all in.

We are excited about this new home and a strong housing market as we prepare for the future. We hope and pray the best for you and your family in 2014!

February 2014 - Snow Tubing in the Poconos

A day after the Winter Olympics started in Sochi, Russia, the Bay to Beach Builders' team headed up to the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania for some winter fun of our own. The company owners took all the employees and our families to Camelback Mountain Resort for an afternoon of snow tubing at the biggest snow tubing park in the U.S.!

The weather was good and the huge hills sent us down at thrilling speeds. After three hours on the hills we were ready for a nap at the hotel followed by dinner at the ever popular Texas Roadhouse restaurant. The weekend trip was a great opportunity to bond as a team and with our families, while providing a fun alternative to the typical summer company picnic. We've got to make the most of this long winter, right?

Stunning Two-Story Colonial Home

A few months ago we completed a two-story colonial style home in Laurel's popular Phillip's Landing community. The home owners, Dustin and Rachel, custom-designed their home with the assistance of Bay to Beach Builders, and they selected luxurious finishes for this stunning 2,645 s.f. home. The home features 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, an open kitchen to family room, and a formal living room and dining room, along with a 2-car garage.

A spacious foyer with hardwood floors welcomes visitors and leads to an open stairway with craftsman style balusters and rails. The kitchen features cream colored Amish built cabinets with a glaze finish and a large center island, all topped with rich granite countertops. Custom paint colors throughout the home accentuate the bold yet attractive painted black doors and white trim. The gas fireplace is flanked by custom built-in cabinetry that rises to a ceiling wrapped with crown molding. The master bedroom features a sitting area with walk-out balcony, two walk-in closets and a luxury bath with dual heads in a tiled shower.

The Amish Cabinet Maker’s Shop

Friday we took a short trip to meet with one of the Amish cabinet-makers who work with Bay to Beach Builders. This team of two brothers has a cabinet shop that sits a few miles west of Dover.

The Amish beliefs call for a simpler lifestyle than what most Americans are accustomed to. It almost feels like stepping back in time when you enter the shop and feel the warmth of the coal fire in the stove with sheets of wood stacked about and a straw hat hanging by the wall. We were greeted by the friendly smile of a 40-year-old man with a graying beard and clear blue eyes. He was clad in home-sewn blue pants that fastened on the side with buttons and supported by suspenders over a button up shirt with no collar.

It was a cloudy day and he remarked that he might need to get more lighting. Two lone light bulbs in the ceiling illuminated the shop, not powered by electric, but by battery and solar. Large tools and machinery sit around the shop, all powered by compressed air.

Then we got down to business. It was time to review the cabinet products we are offering our clients and make sure they are current with today's home trends. We aim to provide old world craftsmanship that is offered in contemporary styles. There was much to discuss.

  • Types of wood: Oak, Maple, Cherry, and even Bamboo

  • Profiles of cabinetry: Raised panel Colonial or Ogee, Shaker style, Flat Panels, Bead Board

  • Stains for the wood: Natural, Pecan, Dark Espresso, etc.

  • Painted Colors: White, Black, Gray, Green, Yellow, Red and Blue

  • Finishes: Glazed and Distressed

  • Cabinet Hardware, Glass panes, Metal Cabinet inserts, and more

By the end, we had an all new plan for what will be offered with the Amish cabinetry that is included in every home we build. And we think you'll love it! The new displays will be showcased in our Idea Home, which we anticipate will open Summer 2014. We can almost guarantee that you've never seen anything like it, especially with the hand-crafted Amish quality
